การใช้ปฏิทินจันทรคติตั้งแต่สมัยจังหวัดสุโขทัยมีการนับเป็นปีตามมหาศักราชและจ.ศ. ต่อมาในรัชสมัยรัชกาลที่ 3
พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวจึงได้มีการโปรดเกล้าจากแบบอย่างปฏิทินเดิมให้กลายเป็นปฏิทินสุริยคติ มีแบบ
การใช้มีความทันสมัยลักษณะสากลตามปฏิทินเกรกอเรียน สุดท้ายก็เลยมีการจัดทำการพิมพ์ปฏิทินตั้งโต๊ะขึ้นเพื่อใช้งานนั้นเอง
